If there’s one thing my friends can count on me for, it’s knowing the trends before they hit the mainstream. “Soph”, they say “what’s in fashion, and what should I be buying?”. Right now, I’m advising my nearest and dearest to invest in their footwear. It’s the quickest way to upgrade your spring outfits and take them one step closer to summer, pun fully intended. Open-toe season is officially here, and, might I add, what better time to get a pedi to prove it.
In terms of what’s trending, they have come to the right person. I’m calling it— we are in a real flat-shoe era, so I am eschewing sneakers and heels in favour of styles which still feel elegant and put-together for day, and in turn, evening. There is a plethora of flat shoes on offer for summer, which are equally as chic (and sometimes even chicer) than their heeled counterparts. With the sun high in the sky and the mercury rising, there is no greater excuse than to experiment a little, and footwear always makes a great finishing touch to give your look real intention, style, and purpose.

While researching summer’s latest shoe trends online, I made real strides in pooling the best of what style-setters are opting for now. Strappy sandals are so back, in leather and suede variations, as well as pared-back neutrals and head-turning pop colours. There are also some closed-toe options coming to the fore, with barely-there mesh designs, and jelly styles which have been given the luxe update (don’t be deceived, you still may want to have a pretty pedi ready for these too). And finally, of course, the humble flip-flop. The much-wronged sandal is going through a renaissance period, and the fashion pack cannot get enough.

Pop-Colour Strappy Sandals
Style Notes: If you are typically a minimalist dresser, but fancy a little flourish of artful colour, look no further. I’ve noticed fashion people who dress in monochromatic and pared-back tones opt for pop-colour sandals, with skinny straps and simple profiles. Choose a bright, primary tone to give your simple look a dopamine hit.

90s-Style Flip-Flops
Style Notes: You can’t deny it—flip-flops are once again bang on trend. The v-shape thong silhouette gives a leg-lengthening effect, great for petite dressers. Not only that, but the sheer ease of slipping them on allows you to just get going with your day. If you are looking for a dose of Olsen energy in your daily fits, this is the summer shoe for you. So 90s, and yet so very now.
