Jordana Maisie is no stranger to exploring the relationship between body and space. Her work over the years has ranged from designing immersive retail environments that shape the way people experience a space to large-scale public installations that challenge perception and interaction. Now, in the next evolution of her eponymous design studio, she is expanding her practice with Jordana Maisie Design Workshop (JMDW) – a parallel initiative dedicated to material exploration, experimental craftsmanship, and a focus on what she calls “clean” and “dirty” spaces.
The Bar
While most designers follow a linear process, Maisie embraces a cyclical approach, one where exploration, iteration, and material engagement are continuously intertwined. “At JMDW, the act of thinking and making are inseparable,” shares Maisie. “The materials, tools, and environment provoke new ways of understanding, while the ideas themselves guide the craft. This cyclical relationship is where our process truly comes to life, transforming abstract concepts into tactile, immersive experiences.”

This philosophy is central to JMDW, where Maisie explores a dual approach to design and fabrication through the lens of “clean” and “dirty” spaces. In this perspective, clean spaces are pragmatic, requiring designs that are precise, functional, and aesthetically engaging. Dirty spaces, on the other hand, are rooted in materiality and the experimentation of those materials in the goal to create bespoke furniture, lighting, and objects that blur the line between art and design. Through this dynamic approach, JMDW will produce everything from small homewares to large-scale architectural works. To kick off this new chapter, Maisie is launching two inaugural collections, The Ash and Burl Collection and The Reliance Range.
The Ash and Burl Collection offers a more recognizable take on traditional furniture typologies, but still with unexpected details and sculptural gestures. The series balances bold geometric forms with the organic, unpredictable beauty of live wood textures, creating pieces that feel familiar in material yet distinctly fresh and modern in form.

The Reliance Range is a masterclass in challenging preconceptions of how furniture should look, feel, and function – pushing beyond the expected to create something entirely new. Each piece in the collection is designed for shared experiences, encouraging collective use rather than solitary seating. By redefining sitting as a communal activity, Maisie introduces interdependent designs, where every component relies on the others for structural integrity.
