Hilary Duff squashes rumors about baby #4 being ‘unplanned’

Sometimes it feels like we just can’t win as parents. When you have one child, you’re constantly asked when you’re going to have another. If you have more than two, you’re constantly asked if the most recent child was “a mistake” or “an accident” or a bit more politely, if it was planned. Hilary Duff is not an exception when it comes to this annoying and persistent questions from folks, and it’s obviously amplified because of her celebrity status. But Duff is putting rumors to rest about her fourth child, Townes.

She shares daughters Townes, Mae James, 3, and Banks Violet, 5, with Koma, and is also mom to son Luca Cruz, 12, whom she shares with ex-husband Mike Comrie.

In an Informed Pregnancy Podcast episode, Duff shut down rumors that her last daughter was unplanned. At the start of the interview, podcast host and prenatal chiropractor Dr. Elliot Berlin told Duff that when anyone announces they have four kids, “Everyone’s first question is ‘Was that an accident?” So of course he asked.

Duff answered, “No, we actually planned this baby. I think I’m one of the most impulsive-thought-out people I know. Like, I do hash things out, but I haven’t really shared with anybody yet, so by the time I’m ready to get pregnant, I’m like basically pregnant.”

She added that she and her husband Matthew Koma came to the mutual decision to have another child. “My husband loves to make it seem like I’m so crazy, I’m so nuts, I’m like, ‘Let’s make our life this mayhem, chaotic place.’ But he’s just as down as me. He’s just as crazy.”

“When we decided, we’re both the same age, he’s like six months older than me, and I was really like, ‘I need to wrap my head around this. Am I done? Are we done? Because I’m fine with that, but I could go again.’ And he’s like, ‘I think I could go again.’ So we just decided we were going to do this,” she shared.

However, the couple is definitely done now, which Duff explained on the podcast episode. She said Koma even got a vasectomy two weeks before she gave birth.

Bottom line though, it’s always best to keep your mouth shut when talking to parents about how many children they have or are about to have. There’s always so much you don’t know about their family, and frankly, it’s none of your business.
