EL & ECL state of play: Can Liverpool secure last-16 spot?

The state of play, tables, results and schedule as we gear up for Matchday Four in the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Liverpool can secure qualification from Group E by maintaining their 100 per cent record in the Europa League this season with a win in Toulouse on Thursday afternoon.

However, West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Rangers all have work to do in order to be playing European football in 2024, although wins for all three would leave their destinies in their own hands.

Meanwhile, in the Europa Conference League, victory for Aston Villa against AZ Alkmaar – who are currently bottom of Group E – at Villa Park on Thursday evening would all but secure Unai Emery’s team a last-16 place.

Finally, Aberdeen visit Group A leaders PAOK Salonika knowing that a win would revive their hopes of progressing to the knockout phase of the competition.

Meanwhile, in the Europa Conference League, Aston Villa kept up their fine form with a 4-1 thrashing of AZ Alkmaar to go joint-top of their group.

However, it was heartbreak for Aberdeen who were 2-0 up against Group G leaders PAOK but eventually fell to a 3-2 defeat at Pittodrie.
